Who is the class suitable for?
The beginners class is for complete beginners. The open level class is suitable for beginners to improvers with up to one years experience. All ages, shapes, sizes and abilities are welcome!
What to wear ?
You don't need anything special to start classes. You can wear a long gypsy skirt or soft jogging trousers/ dance trousers. After a few weeks you may want to start to wear something a little more sparkly and jingly and that is welcomed and encouraged!!! You can dance barefoot or you can wear soft ballet/jazz or belly dance shoes.
You should be prepared to buy a few essential props along the way including a veil, a pair of finger symbols and a stick. You will have advanced warning when you would need to buy these. Once we start to use them please bring your props to class each week incase you need them. What can you expect to gain from belly dance lessons?
In short you will get out of it what you put in to it .However it is important to stress that it is a dance class rather than an exercise class. People come to belly dance for all sorts of reasons and how far you progress is up to you. There are many opportunities to learn, not only in class but by attending visiting teachers workshops and haflas where you can see lots of different styles and learn new techniques. There is a very strong dance community in the south and you will be encouraged to become involved in it. |
